Cloning, A How To
+
Cloning dead bodies
Someone has died? Not to worry, SCIENCE is here!
+
Cloning is dead simple. If you have played Doctor before, you most likely have done it already. Just to make sure, here are the steps:
*1) Grab a body.
+
#Put the body in the scanner and close the scanner on him.
*3) Throw body into cloner.
+
#Head over to the console and click scan.
*4) Scan. If there is no brain activity, wait a moment and try again (Ghost needs to return to its body). If this fails, skip to step 13.
+
#If there are no errors, click the "See Records" button, and select the guy you just scanned, and hit the "Clone" button.
*5) Go into medical records.
+
##If there are errors, refer to the guide here.
*6) Hit clone.
+
#If all the above has gone well, the cloning cycle will begin. Your job is now over, and you can leave the cloning bay.
*7) If you don't have Clean Structural Enzymes yet, pop body out of cloning scanner. If you do, skip to step 9.
+

*8) Take old body (and not the clone), throw into genetic manipulator, go into the transfer buffer, save their SE formula to a blank spot.
+
If you have more bodies you have to clone, or if you want to be more helpful, you can get the body out of the scanner - after it has been scanned of course - , strip them of their gear and throw it outside the cloning pod, ready to be picked up by their new clone. This way, you can clone people faster. Just dont leave the Captain's spare lying around unattended.
*9) Take a clean SE injector from the genetic manipulator and (if the clone mans has anything wrong with them) inject them with clean SEs.
+

*10) Give them their clothes back and throw them out of your lab.
+
<b>Warning</b>: The CMO has the final say in who to and not to scan. It is also good if you listen to Security, as you dont want to clone a serial killer, or a dangerous vampire, do you?
*11) If Clonexadone is available, take the clone to cryogenics to finish their cloning.

*12) Throw them out of your lab.

*13) You now have a dead body to play with, turn into a monkey, throw into the morgue, or just give to the chef (or do a combination thereof).

ASK THE CMO TO CHECK THE CREW MONITOR REGULARLY SO YOU HAVE PEOPLE TO CLONE.

Genetic Backup
+
The cloner can be further upgraded by scientists to autoprocess, ignore errors and even more.
You can take a scan off of someone while they're alive and create a genetic backup ready to be cloned in case they die. This is useful to those of especially high risk of an irretrievable death like the chief engineer or captain.

*1) Bug people to get scanned at genetics while they're still alive.

*2) Scan them.

*3) Press the "clone" button under their records when they die.

Early Ejection
+
(This subject is futher detailed in the Guide to genetics)
If you're feeling fancy and have a backlog of bodies, you can force an early ejection of the cloning pod by unlocking the pod with your ID and using the Eject Pod command from the right-click menu. The clone must be at least 40% done before the pod will allow you to eject it this way.

The cloning pod will also eject its current unfinished clone if the room's equipment loses power. If you get a cooperative Engineer to unlock the APC for you, you can switch the power off and on to eject the clone.
+
Pre-scanning
 +
You can take a scan off of someone while they're alive and create a genetic backup ready to be cloned in case they die. This is useful to those with especially high risks of an irretrievable death like the pilots,  Chief Engineer or Captain.

If you opt for early ejection, you need to finish the cloning process over in cryogenics if they have clonexadone loaded into the machines. Make sure you have some Alkysine handy to cure their massive brain damage, however. This is known as 'Hypercloning', and it speeds up the process of cloning significantly, frees up the cloning machine for another patient, gives cryogenics and bored medical doctors something to do, and it's not inconvenient because they're naked coming out of the pod anyway.
+
The process goes like this:
 +
# Bug people to get scanned at genetics while they're still alive.
 +
# Scan them.
 +
# Press the "clone" button under their records when they die.

 +
If the scientists have upgraded the cloner, the console can be set to autoprocess, which means that the last step can be ignored. You don't even have to leave your desk!

Genetic Research
Genetic Research
Any geneticist worth their salt knows that manipulating the DNA of living things is their ball game.
+
This is where the fun begins! Researching genomes is what you will be doing most of the time, as cloning is usually handled by the doctors.
 +

 +
Your research will consist of clicking buttons on a console. Some people might find this boring, but you know that, at the end of the day, you will be a Hulk with X-ray eyes and Telekinesis, and they will not.
 +

 +
The process of research is detailed in the Guide to genetics, but here I will do a brief overview:
 +
#First, grab a monkey from the pen, and put it into the scanner.
 +
#Then look at its mutations, and find one with the least X-es. Click on the X-es, and fill it in with the corresponding pair.
 +
##Remember:A-T, G-C
 +
##If you have two X-es, you can use your special power by selecting "Joker" to fill in the whole pair at once
 +
#If all the pairs are filled, take a look at what mutation you got. If its good, store it and print a mutator for yourself.
 +

 +
Following this cycle, you will become the space God you always wanted to be.

See the Guide to genetics for more information.
+
Handing out mutations
 +
This is some shady business. Be warned that <b> handing out dangerous or too powerful mutations to random people can earn you a ban</b>. The CMO can also veto any mutation being given out, and security wont like you either, if they see Chucklefucks running around with superpowers.

Other, more subtle, modifications may be possible. As always, experimentation is encouraged!
+
On the brightside, you can become the most beloved man/woman/IPC of the ship if you hand out <i> beneficial </i> mutators. Everybody apprecaites some Space adaption on a ship full of holes, and a bit of Telepathy can help out in comms-outages or if you happen to go mute. Furthermore, if the HoS or the Captain agrees, Security Officers with X-ray eyes and Hulk are a force to be reckoned with. But dont stop there! Engineers and Doctors could always use more help.

As a traitor, you are pretty much able to do anything you want to dead people in your lab, granted you don't have a coworker or baby sitter. After sticking about for a few moments, any security forces usually vanish from the room of medium priority targets, like the RD or CE. At this time, you can then loot their items and access, or even their appearance! You can easily replace people, just be sure to get rid of the original and wear the right clothes! Perhaps it will help you in the long run.

Cloning and the Genetics lab

Your workplace is the Genetics Lab, usually located in Medbay. It has two separete parts: Cloning and the Lab itself.

Cloning is usually the bigger and messier place. It has a long cryo tube alongside a cloning pod, a DNA scanner and a console between these two along with numerous rotting bodies. This is where dead people get dropped off, and its your job to clone them. (We will get to this later)

The other part of your workplace, your inner sanctuary is the lab. Here there are two sets of DNA scanners, consoles and DNA manipulators. Here you and your coworker will spend most of your day, altering genomes.

Cloning dead bodies[edit | edit source]

Cloning is dead simple. If you have played Doctor before, you most likely have done it already. Just to make sure, here are the steps:

  1. The DNA scannerPut the body in the scanner and close the scanner on him.
  2. The Cloning ConsoleHead over to the console and click scan.
  3. If there are no errors, click the "See Records" button, and select the guy you just scanned, and hit the "Clone" button.
    1. If there are errors, refer to the guide here.
  4. The Cloning podIf all the above has gone well, the cloning cycle will begin. Your job is now over, and you can leave the cloning bay.

The cloner can be further upgraded by scientists to autoprocess, ignore errors and even more.

(This subject is futher detailed in the Guide to genetics)

Pre-scanning[edit | edit source]

You can take a scan off of someone while they're alive and create a genetic backup ready to be cloned in case they die. This is useful to those with especially high risks of an irretrievable death like the pilots, Chief Engineer or Captain.

The process goes like this:

  1. Bug people to get scanned at genetics while they're still alive.
  2. Scan them.
  3. Press the "clone" button under their records when they die.

If the scientists have upgraded the cloner, the console can be set to autoprocess, which means that the last step can be ignored. You don't even have to leave your desk!

Genetic Research[edit | edit source]

This is where the fun begins! Researching genomes is what you will be doing most of the time, as cloning is usually handled by the doctors.

Your research will consist of clicking buttons on a console. Some people might find this boring, but you know that, at the end of the day, you will be a Hulk with X-ray eyes and Telekinesis, and they will not.

The process of research is detailed in the Guide to genetics, but here I will do a brief overview:

  1. First, grab a monkey from the pen, and put it into the scanner.
  2. Then look at its mutations, and find one with the least X-es. Click on the X-es, and fill it in with the corresponding pair.
    1. Remember:A-T, G-C
    2. If you have two X-es, you can use your special power by selecting "Joker" to fill in the whole pair at once
  3. If all the pairs are filled, take a look at what mutation you got. If its good, store it and print a mutator for yourself.

Following this cycle, you will become the space God you always wanted to be.

Handing out mutations[edit | edit source]

This is some shady business. Be warned that handing out dangerous or too powerful mutations to random people can earn you a ban. The CMO can also veto any mutation being given out, and security wont like you either, if they see Chucklefucks running around with superpowers.

On the brightside, you can become the most beloved man/woman/IPC of the ship if you hand out beneficial mutators.
