The vault is a high-security storage that contains many valuable items and machines.
The Ore Silo stores minerals that are automatically available from (by default or with multitoolFile:Multitool.png) linked protolathes, techfabs and Ore Redemption Machines.
It also holds the ship's self destruct system which contains the Plutonium Core that is sometimes needed to complete a Traitor's objective.
In the drawer are some of Nanotrasen's Secret Documents which are of course highly classified.
Only the Captain and Head of Personnel are allowed to enter this place normally, though there are always Other People who would like to get in.
It's also a fairly safe spot to hide in if you want to be a coward. Just remember it can be vented and you can suffocate if the AI is turned against you.
Roboticists and the Research Director both want to get in for the gold inside or to link their machines to the ore silo, and the Death squad may want to activate the Self Destruct system inside in case of emergency.
Some will probably be interested in the Bank Machine. Hit it with money to deposit points into cargo, or click a button to turn cargo points into money! Money you can take! Be warned though, taking money will set off an alert, leading to a visit from your friendly security team.
Other than that, it's a favourite hive for Aliens and also a prime target for a Lone Nuclear Operative and Boarding teams.
