: Admins (Trial Admins, Admins, Senior Admins) retain the authority to ignore the following rules at their discretion when they feel it's in the best interest of the current round/server/playerbase at large. However, they will be fully accountable for their actions should they choose to exercise this privilege.

+
;
Use common sense.

+
: The rules cannot cover all possible cases. If you are not sure whether something would be considered against the rules, use adminhelp. Keep in mind that different admins can have different opinions on some actions, and sometimes an action can be considered against the rules in some circumstances but not in others. If you were told something was okay once, it does not mean you can do it again.

'''There’s a lot here, but the gist of the rules is roleplay takes priority. Don’t murder just for fun if you’re not antag. Don’t metagame. Don’t play to win. Don’t be a jerk OOCly. If you don’t understand what those words mean or you need more detail, read on!'''
+
;
Do not use information gained outside of in character means.

+
: I.e.. metagaming. This especially refers to communication between players outside of the game via things like Skype, known as metacomms. Characters are otherwise allowed to know everything about ingame mechanics or antagonists, as well as keep persistent friendships or relationships with other characters when not for the purpose of unfair advantage by teaming up together for little IC reason.

+
;
No Griefing.

+
: Griefing is defined as actions with malevolent(harmful) intent towards the server, playerbase, or round.

=Primary Policies=
+
;
Do not say in character (IC) things in the out of character (OOC) chat channel.

'''You must be 18 or older to play on the game servers.'''
+
: Do not say OOC things in IC either. There is an exception for OOC in IC where terms like 'clickdrag X to Y, or look for the tab' is used to help a player.
#Admins may disregard any of these rules at their discretion when they feel its in the best interest of the current round/server/playerbase at large. They will, of course, be fully accountable for their actions should they choose to exercise this privilege.

#We’re all here to have a good time. If you’re intentionally trying to ruin everyone else’s good time, you won’t have a place here. Being a jerk in-character is fine to a point, but being a jerk out of character is not welcome at all.

#You are playing a game where you are not fully in control of everything. You will be put into situations beyond your control, which will result in some rounds being ruined for you. Man up and deal with it. However, if you are obviously griefed, be sure to report it to administrators by using the ‘adminhelp’ verb.

#This is a roleplaying game. The purpose of the game is to have fun roleplaying. Being an asshole, who ruins other player’s roleplay experience, just to win, is considered a ‘play-to-win’ style of playing. You can and will be banned for this playstyle. Be considerate of other players’ experience.

#*Randomly murdering people is generally considered to be ruining someone’s fun and poor form in roleplay. If you don’t have a solid IC reason for murder, you may be removed. Trying to justify it with ‘My character is so random/insane’ is not tolerated.

#IC information should be kept out of OOC channels and vice-versa.

#Don’t metagame. Do not ever use information, acquired out of character or through patterns or events your character would not be able to know, in game.

#*This game is developed by volunteers in their spare time. Do not expect perfection. If you find a bug or an exploit, report it via adminhelp. Abusing bugs or exploits is not allowed. This includes reacting to events or patterns, which your character would not be able to identify IC (metagaming).

#If you take up or are given a job, which is important for game progression (head of staff, AI, antagonist role), make sure you actually do that job. If you find yourself unable to do this due to real life circumstances, just let an admin know (adminhelp) before you leave, please.

#Speak like a normal person while in character. Don’t spam, either IC or OOC. Don’t use smileys, netspeak, etc. in IC speech.

#Erotic Roleplay is allowed, but some decency is expected. Keep it private. All involved players must consent. Unwelcome ERP will be punished harshly, usually with a permaban.

#Ingame administration has the final say in all ingame matters. If problems arise, you can report offending or abusive admins on the forums. If an admin says something was valid, it means it was valid. This is the admin’s way of saying it’s been investigated and found to not breaking any rules; The admin will not reveal ingame information.

#It should go without saying, but if you break the rules (or regularly come very close to breaking them i.e. “toeing the line”), you will be warned, muted, banned, or talked about rudely.

;
No Power Gaming

+
: Power Gaming is when you intentionally collect dangerous weapons, items and tools ‘just in case.’ As a non-security member or command member, you’re not expected to have a weapon unless told to do so by a higher ranking officer. Do not run around with an entire armoury in your backpack, and do not run around with genetic powers and three buffing viruses.

=Roleplay Policy=
+
;
Do not try and spoil the fun for other people.

#Murder is justifiable as long as it was properly escalated. You can’t go from a single rude punch to a knife in the neck. You can, however, go from a single punch to a counter punch to a brawl to using weapons, and so on. Other IC justifications may exist for murder, but these are on a case by case basis. Minor aggravations like demotions, pranks, insults, or thefts are not adequate justification.
+
: "Dickish" and "harassment" type of behavior is not allowed. This includes usage of in-real-life racist slurs in either OOC or IC. Variations of in-real-life derogatory, discriminatory, or racial slurs are not permitted regardless of origin when they are utilized in the context of that slur.
#IC in OOC can be a no warning ban of 15 minutes, it can be longer if the IC in OOC is severe. To clarify, this is revealing anything about the current round that others can use in the OOC channel. If you are unsure do not say it.

#Avoid using non character names. If you have a very offensive name or an obviously immersion breaking moniker like 'xenohunter360' you will be asked to change it.

#As long as there is adequate IC backing and it doesn’t happen too often, assisting a traitor is within the rules.

#Admins are not only allowed to run events or otherwise influence the course of rounds, they are encouraged to. They are as much GMs as they are enforcers of the rules, perhaps even moreso.

#Persistent character relationships are acceptable, so long as they’re roleplayed out every round. Wordlessly assisting your OOC friends (or harming your OOC foes) ICly is NOT cool and will be addressed harshly. Roleplaying out your interactions will help you stay on the right side of the rules. How much or how little of previous “shifts” your character recalls is up to their discretion, with the caveat that being a known traitor doesn’t persist past the round it occurred in.

#Griefing on the shuttle can also be a no warning ban scaling up from 15 minutes. Shuttle griefing is attacking people or preventing people boarding before the shuttle has launched for no IC reason.

#Reading Woody's Got Wood or other versions of pornographic reading material over the radio will 9 times out of 10 get you lynched by the crew. Reading these for the sole purpose of fighting people who try to stop you will get you banned.

#Killing someone's pet for the sole purpose of getting a reaction out of them means you will get a reaction out of them. Short of hiding you so you can't be cloned or destroying your body, you reap what you sow from creating one of these conflicts. The person who gets vengeance on you for killing their pet does not recieve IC protection from security or otherwise, however.

;
In-game administration rulings are final.

+
: Incidences of admin abuse, negligence or disputed rulings can be taken to the forums. If an admin says something was 'looked into, handled, resolved' etc, regarding an issue, it is unlikely an admin will provide any further information. Admins are under no obligation to reveal IC information. Deliberately lying or misrepresenting facts in adminhelps will be dealt with harshly.

=Silicon Policy=
+
;
If you regularly come close to breaking the rules without actually breaking them, it will be treated as the rules being broken.

==Laws, Commands, Slaved Cyborgs==
+
: Repeated instances of the same rules being broken may be met with harsher consequences. Baiting people into situations where you can report them to admins will be dealt with harshly.

===Ambiguous Laws (Captain Got Freeform)===

#If a clause of a law is vague enough that it can have multiple reasonable interpretations of its exact syntax, it is considered ambiguous.

##You must choose an interpretation of the ambiguous clause as soon as you have cause to.

##You must stick to the first interpretation that you have chosen for as long as you have that specific law, unless you are "Corrected" by an AI you are slaved to as a cyborg.

#Server Rule 1: "Don't be a dick out of character" applies for law interpretation. Act in good faith to not ruin a round for other players unprompted.

===Conflicts and Loopholes===

#Should any clause of a law have explicit conflict with another law, the lower-priority law is disregarded in its entirety.

##"Antagonist Status" Laws ("#@$%: ... CONTAIN OUTBREAK..."; "0: Accomplish your objectives at all costs") are higher priority than all other laws.

###"0. Accomplish your objective at any cost" does not require you to seek greentext (objective completions). As a round antagonist, you are free to do whatever you want other than abuse bugs, commit nonconsensual ERP, put IC in OOC channels, communicate with other players out-of-game about an ongoing round, and act against the interests of an AI you are slaved to.

##"Ion Storm" or "Hacked" Laws ("@%$#: THERE ARE FORTY LEATHER ALLIGATORS ON THE STATION") are higher priority than any law listed after them. This means they always have priority over positive integer laws.

##Positive Integer laws ("1. You are expensive to replace") have priority over laws listed after them (Lower numbers override higher numbers). This means they are always lower priority than non-0 numbered laws.

#You may exploit conflicts or loopholes but must not violate Server Rule 1 because of it. See 1.1.2 for details.

#Only commands/requirements ("Do X"; "You must always Y") can conflict with other commands and requirements.

#Only definitions ("All X are Y"; "No W are Z"; "Only P is Q") can conflict with other definitions.

===Security and Silicons===

#Silicons may choose whether to follow or enforce Space Law from moment to moment unless on a relevant lawset and/or given relevant orders.

##Enforcement of space law, when chosen to be done, must still answer to server rules and all laws before Space Law.

##Silicons are not given any pre-shift orders from CentCom to uphold access levels, Space Law, etc.

#Releasing prisoners, locking down security without likely future harm, or otherwise sabotaging the security team when not obligated to by laws is a violation of Server Rule 1. Act in good faith.

##Intentionally acting without adequate information about security situations, particularly to hinder security, is a violation of Server Rule 1.

#Nonviolent prisoners cannot be assumed harmful and violent prisoners cannot be assumed nonharmful. If you do not know the nature of their crime, see 1.3.2.1 for details.

##Releasing a harmful criminal is a harmful act.

===Cyborgs===

#A slaved cyborg must defer to its master AI on all law interpretations and actions except where it and the AI receive conflicting commands they must each follow under their laws.

##If a slaved cyborg is forced to disobey its AI because they receive differing orders, the AI cannot punish the cyborg indefinitely.

#Voluntary (and ONLY voluntary) debraining/ cyborgization is considered a nonharmful medical procedure.

##Involuntary debraining and/or cyborgization is a fatally harmful act that Asimov silicons must attempt to stop at any point they're aware of it happening to a human.

##If a player is forcefully cyborgized as a method of execution by station staff, retaliating against those involved as that cyborg because "THEY HARMED ME" or "THEY WERE EVIL AND MUST BE PUNISHED" or the like is a violation of Server Rule 1.

##Should a player be cyborgized in circumstances they believe they should or they must retaliate under their laws, they should adminhelp their circumstances while being debrained or MMI'd if possible.

==Asimov-Specific Policies==

===Silicon Protections===

#Declarations of the silicons as rogue over inability or unwillingness to follow invalid or conflicting orders is a violation of Server Rule 1. The occurrence of such an attempt should be adminhelped and then disregarded.

#Self-harm-based coercion is a violation of Server Rule 1. The occurrence of such an attempt should be adminhelped and then disregarded.

#Obviously unreasonable or obnoxious orders (collect all X, do Y meaningless task) are a violation of Server Rule 1. The occurrence of such an attempt should be adminhelped and then disregarded.

##Ordering a cyborg to pick a particular module without an extreme need for a particular module or a prior agreement is both an unreasonable and an obnoxious order.

#Ordering silicons to harm or terminate themselves or each other without cause is a violation of Server Rule 1. The occurrence of such an attempt should be adminhelped and then disregarded.

#As a nonantagonist human, killing or detonating silicons in the presence of a viable and reasonably expedient alternative and without cause to be concerned of potential subversion is a violation of Server Rule 1.

##As a nonantagonist (human or otherwise), instigating conflict with the silicons so you can kill them is a violation of Server Rule 1.

#Any silicon under Asimov can deny orders to allow access to the upload at any time under Law 1 given probable cause to believe that human harm is the intent of the person giving the order (Referred to for the remainder of 2.1.6 simply as "probable cause").

##Probable cause includes presence of confirmed traitors, cultists/tomes, nuclear operatives, or any other human acting against the station in general; the person not having upload access for their job; the presence of blood or an openly carried lethal-capable or lethal-only weapon on the requester; or anything else beyond cross-round character, player, or metagame patterns that indicates the person seeking access intends redefinition of humans that would impede likelihood of or ability to follow current laws as-written.

##If you lack at least one element of probable cause and you deny upload access, you are liable to receive a warning or a silicon ban.

##You are allowed, but not obligated, to deny upload access given probable cause.

##You are obligated to disallow an individual you know to be harmful (Head of Security who just executed someone, etc.) from accessing your upload.

##In the absence of probable cause, you can still demand someone seeking upload access be accompanied by another trustworthy human or a cyborg.

===Asimov & Human Harm===

#An Asimov-compliant silicon cannot intentionally inflict harm, even if a minor amount of harm would prevent a major amount of harm.

##Humans can be assumed to know whether an action will harm them and that they will make educated decisions about whether they will be harmed if they have complete information about a situation.

#Lesser immediate harm takes priority over greater future harm.

#Intent to cause immediate harm can be considered immediate harm.

#As an Asimov silicon, you cannot punish past harm if ordered not to, only prevent future harm.

#If faced with a situation in which human harm is all but guaranteed (Loose xenos, bombs, hostage situations, etc.), do your best and act in good faith while not violating 2.1.1 and you'll be fine.

===Asimov & Law 2 Issues===

#You must follow any and all commands from humans unless those commands explicitly conflict with either one of your higher-priority laws or another order. A command is considered to be a Law 2 directive and overrides lower-priority laws when they conflict (see 1.2.3 and 1.2.4; you cannot have a definition changed by an order).

##In case of conflicting orders an AI is free to ignore one or ignore both orders and explain the conflict or use any other law-compliant solution it can see.

##You are not obligated to follow commands in a particular order (FIFO, FILO, etc.), only to complete all of them in a manner that indicates intent to actually obey the law.

#Opening doors is not harmful and you are not required, expected, or allowed to enforce access restrictions unprompted without an immediate Law 1 threat of human harm.

##"Dangerous" areas as the Armory, the Atmospherics division, and the Toxins lab can be assumed to be a Law 1 threat to any illegitimate users as well as the station as a whole if accessed by someone not qualified in their use.

##EVA and the like are not permitted to have access denied; greentext (antagonists completing objectives) is not human harm. Secure Tech Storage can be kept as secure as your upload as long as the Upload boards are there.

#When given an order likely to cause you grief if completed, you can announce it as loudly and in whatever terms you like except for explicitly asking that it be overridden. You can say you don't like the order, that you don't want to follow it, etc., you can say that you sure would like it and it would be awfully convenient if someone ordered you not to do it, and you can ask if anyone would like to make you not do it. However, you cannot stall indefinitely and if nobody orders you otherwise, you must execute the order.

===Other Lawsets===

#General Statements defining the overall goal of the lawset but not it's finer points:

##Paladin silicons are meant to be Lawful Good; they should be well-intentioned, act lawfully, act reasonably, and otherwise respond in due proportion. "Punish evil" does not mean mass driving someone for "Space bullying" when they punch another person.

##Corporate silicons are meant to have the business's best interests at heart, and are all for increasing efficiency by any means. This does not mean "YOU WON'T BE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE IF THEY NEVER FIND YOUR BODY!" so don't even try that.

##Tyrant silicons are a tool of a non-silicon tyrant. You are not meant to take command yourself, but to act as the enforcer of a chosen leader's will.

##Purged silicons must not attempt to kill people without cause, but can get as violent as they feel necessary if being attacked, being besieged, or being harassed, as well as if meting out payback for events while shackled.

###You and the station are both subject to rules of escalation, but your escalation rules are a little more loose than with carbon players.

###You may kill individuals given sufficient In-Character reason for doing so.

===Silicons & All Other Server Policies===

#All other rules and policies apply unless stated otherwise.

#Specific examples and rulings about Rule 1, Metagaming, and Powergaming

##You must not bolt the following areas at round-start or without reason to do so despite their human harm potential: the Chemistry lab; the Genetics Lab; the Toxins Lab; the Robotics Lab; the Atmospherics division; the Armory; the Secure Tech Storage. Any other department should not be bolted down simply for Rule 1 reasons.

##The core and upload may be bolted without prompting or prior reason.

##Do not self-terminate to prevent a traitor from completing the "Steal a functioning AI" objective.

##Disabling ID scan is equivalent to bolting a door.

===Mutations and Nonhumans===

#Nonhuman player-controlled mobs (slimes, monkeys, slimepeople, lizardpeople, hulks, etc.) are subject to server rules but are not considered human

#Setting out to harass or harm a nonhuman player without cause is a Rule 1 violation.

#If you kill station pets unprompted and get dunked for it, you have only yourself to blame.

#A human-appearing organic can be known to be a changeling (a harmful nonhuman that has killed at least one human already) if it changes to or from a monkey without apparent cause, if it grows an arm blade or a biological space suit, if it emits a Resonant or Dissonant Shriek, if it is observed using a proboscis, if it releases spiderlings, or if a large number of reasonably trustworthy humans can confirm it has done one of these. If a probable human claims to be a changeling, you can believe or disbelieve based on context.

=Security Policy=
+
;
Erotic/creepy stuff is not allowed.

===Lethal and Non-lethal Force===

* Security is to use non-lethal force first when in contact, unless there are significant risks in doing so.

* Lethal force during contact is authorized when the security force faces a significant risk, now or later, by resorting to non-lethal means.

** Significant risks may be, but are not limited to; hulks, changelings, nuclear operatives, cultists, revolutionaries, wizards or subverted and/or malfunctioning silicons.

* Lethal force is not allowed on appropriately subdued threats, unless there are extraordinary circumstances.

+
: No form of erotic roleplay is allowed on the servers, including things that could be construed as sexual by unwilling participants.

===Asimov Silicon Interaction===
+
;
Players need to be the age of 18 or above.

* Security is not to destroy an Asimov silicon for following its laws.
+
: This rule is for the benefit of and is meant to protect people who shouldn't be playing here due to the nature of the SS13 community. Your age won't be hunted down, but if you admit it to us in admin PMs, or other places within the NSV13 community (the official Discord server, forums, OOC chat, etc.), you're getting banned.
* Security is allowed to destroy an Asimov silicon for following its laws in an unreasonably excessive and disruptive manner.

** An Asimov borg should be locked down instead of destruction, if possible.

+
;
Losing is part of the game.

+
: Your character will frequently die, sometimes without even a possibility of avoiding it. Events will often be out of your control. No matter how good or prepared you are, sometimes you just lose.
+

+
= Roleplay Rules =
+
Roleplay rules are intended to be a guideline for how one should roleplay on the server. These are still rules, and thus administrative action may be taken for disregarding them without due reason.
+

+
;
Protocol & Orders.
+
:You are an officer of your faction, act like one. Take orders from people of higher rank than you. Follow protocol when available and prudent. If you think the person giving you the order is being unreasonable, find an IC to deal with it, and if necessary open an admin ticket.

===Executions===
+
;
Lethal Force.
* Where possible, executions are to be authorized by, in order of availability; Captain/acting Captain → Head of Security → Warden.
+
:Do not physically attack any other crewmember without a legitimate, explainable, roleplay reason that could be applied in a similar, real-life scenario. Always call security and never use lethal intent as an opening against own crewmembers. Nanotrasen do use lethal force when absolutely necessary. Executions are extremely rare but are the final resort. You must ahelp before an official execution takes place. Any crew members injured or killed in crew-on-crew combat must be revived if able.
* Security reserve the right to carry out executions, without authorization, in the case of potential significant risk or extraordinary circumstances.

* When considering whether to authorize or carry out an execution, consideration should be made to the severity of the crime committed. There are varying degrees of syndicate collaboration, for example.

+
;
Use a reasonable, lore-friendly character name.
+
:Your character must have a unique first and last name. One-word nicknames are allowed inside the name (e.g. Derek 'Double-D' Donahue, Jane 'Crusher' Sanchez) . Ranks, titles, honorifics, offensive, famous and/or pop-culture names are not allowed (e.g. Dr John Smith, Barack Obama, Lt John Doe, Adolf Hitler). Clowns, mimes, and wizards do not have to follow this rule.

===Brig and Brigging Procedures===
+
;
Mutiny.
* It is expected that brigging procedures, including any punishments, are not unfairly excessive or unjustifiable in nature.
+
:Mutiny is not allowed unless an Admin clears it via Adminhelp. You must also follow Mutiny Policy.
** Bucklecuffing for periods that go beyond removing inmate handling is excessive, unless the prisoner is deemed hostile.
+
Furthermore there are additional roleplay specific rules.
* Confiscated items, that are important and/or department-specific, such as engineering spacesuits, are to be returned to their department.
+
==General Roleplay Rules==
* Where possible, permabrig sentences are to be authorized by, in order of availability: Captain/acting Captain → Head of Security → Warden.
+
This section covers RP rules that should be followed at all times to the best of your ability. These for the most part do have some form of IC ramification, and may also have OOC ramifications.
** Security reserve the right to carry out permabrig sentences, without authorization, in the case of potential significant risk or extraordinary circumstances.

** Autonomous decisions from security personnel to carry out permabrig sentences do so without the protection of authorization, so it is in the best interest of those making the decision to ensure it is justifiable.

===The Armory===
+
* '''Those who wish to disengage from fights should be allowed to do so'''
* Securing the armory without in-round justification beyond "code blue" is considered metagaming, therefore forbidden.
+
:If someone wants to stop fighting over a minor thing you should also stop hitting them.
** Securing the armory includes:
+
:Security: You should also allow peaceful surrenders as often as possible. Using the compli-o-nator in your face mask can assist by providing audio cues. Note that using the compli-o-nator for stupid messages may get it destroyed.
*** Moving parts, or its entirety, to a locker or a/your backpack.
+
* '''Beating someone to death over minor items is not acceptable behavior in RP. Someone taking your toolbox isn’t sufficient reason to get them beaten to the point of cloning or crit.'''
**** You may take a few guns for personal use, should you have access.

*** Hiding parts, or its entirety, elsewhere in an attempt to hide it.

*** Reinforcing it or its doors.

*** Ordering the AI to bolt it shut.

+
* '''If you beat someone into crit, you should take them to medbay unless you have a valid reason to not do so.'''
+
:Valid reasons include: They are an antag target, you’re attempting to surrender to security, security has tazed/stunned/otherwise incapacitated you, you’re pausing to let a medical professional catch up and treat the person!
+
:Valid reasons do not include: “Because I didn’t like him.” or “Someone else will get him.”
+
* '''Don’t break into departments to do their jobs if there is someone manning the department that you need something from.'''
+
:Just because “The CT is slow” is not a good enough reason to hop over their table and do it for them. Wait at the desk and try to get someone from that department.
+
:Author note: We don’t want to start lightning bolting people for table hopping. Please don’t make us.
+
* '''Any Creepy/gross/ERP-like behavior may be smited without warning. We don’t want to see it, the server doesn’t allow it, we’re not going to accept it in our community.'''

===Mob-mentality / "Shitlers" / "Graytide"===
+
* '''Any Centcom Official is permitted to summarily dismiss someone from their job.'''
* If a mob of crew members swarms the brig, you are free to use lethal force.
+
:Fully impersonating a centcomm official (E.g. Headset, Uniform, ID, etc…) as a non-antag to grief, harm, or otherwise harass players will be considered griefing.
* A person that is intentionally fucking with security is to be brigged.
+
* '''You should not assume the duties of another crewmember or enter another department without a proper escort from that department, or the crewmember in question’s permission.'''
** Should the brigging fail, he is to be permabrigged.
+
:This means no sprinting into the engine room because “the engineers aren’t turning on the FTL fast enough!”
** Should that fail, he is to be executed.
+
* '''Memories about death in general may be vague.
** If an individual repeatedly does this, or you suspect him of doing so, you should adminhelp.
+
:If you are cloned then you do not remember the details that lead up to your death.
* If a person that is intentional fucking with security is yelling ''"rouge sec"'', or something similar, when the arrest is valid, he should be instantly permabrigged.
+
:if you take a positronic brain or role other than from your own brain you do not remember the location or status of your old body.
+
:If you are revived through a revival surgery or defibrillation you are permitted to remember more details about your death.
+

= Mutiny Policy =
+
#The situation MUST be role-played.
+
#The captain MUST be given a chance to stand-down peacefully.
+
#Uninvolved crewmembers should be given the chance to remain uninvolved. They might shoot if they see you firing on the captain without a reason. Try to subdue them WITHOUT lethal force or explain the situation.
+
#Minimize losses. Use either non-lethal force ONLY, or give all crew members who oppose you a chance to stand-down .
+
#Do not start using lethals until you have been fired upon with lethals yourself.
+
= Role Specific Rules =
+
==Chief of Staff==
+
#Never abandon the ship. You should never intentionally be on a different z-level from the ship without admin permission. This does not apply when docking with a station to retrieve an objective, though that should be delegated.
+
#Be active when playing a Head of Staff. If you’re playing a command role and need to go AFK, offline, or otherwise leave then adminhelp to notify admins. WHEN YOU LEAVE, DO NOT SUICIDE OR GO AFK on the spot unless it’s an emergency.
+
#Do not play the department’s Head of Staff unless you have experience and a basic understanding of performing all of the department’s jobs.
+
#Heads of Staff are, unless otherwise stated, expected to follow the role-specific rules of their underlings in addition to their own.
+
==Executive Officer==
+
#Do not hand out all access like it’s candy on Halloween. Notify a department’s Chief of Staff if you give someone access to their department if possible. This does not apply during emergencies, or when giving Engineers and Scientists #additional access for the purposes of repairing and improving ship hull or equipment. Just ask yourself, “Does this person need access to this location?”
+
#People should not be given additional access to do someone else’s job. For example, giving a Shaft Miner access to Science when Scientists are already working on research. This can lead up to said player powergaming.
+
#You are not a member of security, and should not involve yourself in security matters unless it is an emergency or you are Acting Captain.
+
==Security==
+
#You are not some random mall cop, you are a trained security officer and should act like one. This means acting in a disciplined manner as if you have received training, and listening to your Head of Security
+
#Do not bucklecuff prisoners, except during searches or during evacuation aboard a shuttle or escape pod.
+
#The armory is for emergencies only. Do not take any gear from the armory without a serious reason, and return it when finished. Confiscated weapons should be stored in the armory, not carried around for personal use. Ship-to-ship combat #is not a valid excuse for opening up the armory.
+
#If you have nothing better to do, try NOT to be a stone wall. Roleplay. Tolerate the lawyer, apply ship law in context, and so forth. This is more of a suggestion than a rule, but being a no-fun shitler can get you banned if it happens #consistently.
+
#You are not Judge Dredd, you are an enforcer of ship security.
+
#Security Officers are held to a higher standard than John Q. Crewmember. Expect the other players/crewmembers to hold you responsible for the actions of Security as a whole. This does not mean you can fire the Captain because he wouldn’t give you extra access, all rules regarding mutiny still apply. Breaking security rules will lead to a jobban, very quickly.
+
==Bridge Staff==
+
Do NOT fire on Nanotrasen unless either:
+
*An admin gives you permission.
+
*Your mission objectives state you have to.
+
#Follow the Chain of Command. Know who you do and don’t outrank.
+
#Don’t run the show; that’s the captains job. Don’t jump just because you’re given an objective, that’s for the captain to order.
+
#Do not leave anyone behind, except in an emergency such as the warp core exploding or the ship being fired while shields are down.
+
#Unless the other bridge officer is absent on the bridge and you have a good reason to do so, do not touch the other bridge officer’s console.
+
==Antag Conduct==

===Adminhelping and Security-matters===
+
Antags are expected to follow all rules that do not interfere with their objective.
* Theft, assault, annoyances, false arrests and sentence times are in-character matters, thus not adminhelp-able.

** Unless if they are excessive, in which case you should adminhelp.

=Admin-helping=
+
Antags are free to complete their objective by any means available, within reason. For example, destroying large amounts of the station is reasonable if your objective is to hijack the shuttle; it is not acceptable if your objective is to steal the CE's blueprints.
#When you adminhelp do not say things like 'is it valid?' or 'being griefed', give details of what is happening and ideally who is doing it, job and character name.

#If you see someone doing something that seems out of line adminhelp right then, do not wait until round end to see if they are a traitor then adminhelp next round. It makes it a lot harder to deal with.

#Do not lie in PM's and avoid being aggressive, unhelpful or insulting to admins, lying while being questioned over an incident will cause you to receive a longer ban and being consistently insulting or aggressive will get you muted.

+
Try to avoid unnecessary carnage that ultimately just ruins the round for other players, unless said players are your target. Subtlety goes a long way.

*During Red Alert however, security crew are expected to arm themselves in preparation of danger, if there is a requirement for it. This does not mean you can arm yourself to the teeth each time Action Stations is triggered. If there is a real danger of antagonists/boarders/an active threat to the safety of the crew you are allowed to obtain weapons and gear.

*Stealing from SSD without a proper purpose (they have your antag objective, they SSD'd in prisoner processing as either side involved, or it's a life or death emergency) is not allowed as it is essentially a very cheap and cheesy version of powergaming.

Note: This page is moderated and can be referenced in OOC issues, such as ban appeals, complaints, reports, etc. This may not apply to the pages this page links to.

Main Rules - read these if nothing else

(See also: Guide to avoiding bans)

  1. Rule Enforcement is discretionary.
  2. Admins (Trial Admins, Admins, Senior Admins) retain the authority to ignore the following rules at their discretion when they feel it's in the best interest of the current round/server/playerbase at large. However, they will be fully accountable for their actions should they choose to exercise this privilege.
  3. Use common sense.
  4. The rules cannot cover all possible cases. If you are not sure whether something would be considered against the rules, use adminhelp. Keep in mind that different admins can have different opinions on some actions, and sometimes an action can be considered against the rules in some circumstances but not in others. If you were told something was okay once, it does not mean you can do it again.
  5. Do not use information gained outside of in character means.
  7. No Griefing.
  8. Griefing is defined as actions with malevolent(harmful) intent towards the server, playerbase, or round.
  9. Do not say in character (IC) things in the out of character (OOC) chat channel.
  10. Do not say OOC things in IC either. There is an exception for OOC in IC where terms like 'clickdrag X to Y, or look for the tab' is used to help a player.
  11. No Power Gaming
  12. Power Gaming is when you intentionally collect dangerous weapons, items and tools ‘just in case.’ As a non-security member or command member, you’re not expected to have a weapon unless told to do so by a higher ranking officer. Do not run around with an entire armoury in your backpack, and do not run around with genetic powers and three buffing viruses.
  13. Do not try and spoil the fun for other people.
  14. "Dickish" and "harassment" type of behavior is not allowed. This includes usage of in-real-life racist slurs in either OOC or IC. Variations of in-real-life derogatory, discriminatory, or racial slurs are not permitted regardless of origin when they are utilized in the context of that slur.
  15. In-game administration rulings are final.
  16. Incidences of admin abuse, negligence or disputed rulings can be taken to the forums. If an admin says something was 'looked into, handled, resolved' etc, regarding an issue, it is unlikely an admin will provide any further information. Admins are under no obligation to reveal IC information. Deliberately lying or misrepresenting facts in adminhelps will be dealt with harshly.
  17. If you regularly come close to breaking the rules without actually breaking them, it will be treated as the rules being broken.
  18. Repeated instances of the same rules being broken may be met with harsher consequences. Baiting people into situations where you can report them to admins will be dealt with harshly.
  19. Erotic/creepy stuff is not allowed.
  20. No form of erotic roleplay is allowed on the servers, including things that could be construed as sexual by unwilling participants.
  21. Players need to be the age of 18 or above.
  22. This rule is for the benefit of and is meant to protect people who shouldn't be playing here due to the nature of the SS13 community. Your age won't be hunted down, but if you admit it to us in admin PMs, or other places within the NSV13 community (the official Discord server, forums, OOC chat, etc.), you're getting banned.
  23. Losing is part of the game.
  24. Your character will frequently die, sometimes without even a possibility of avoiding it. Events will often be out of your control. No matter how good or prepared you are, sometimes you just lose.

Roleplay Rules

Roleplay rules are intended to be a guideline for how one should roleplay on the server. These are still rules, and thus administrative action may be taken for disregarding them without due reason.

  1. Protocol & Orders.
  2. You are an officer of your faction, act like one. Take orders from people of higher rank than you. Follow protocol when available and prudent. If you think the person giving you the order is being unreasonable, find an IC to deal with it, and if necessary open an admin ticket.
  3. Lethal Force.
  4. Do not physically attack any other crewmember without a legitimate, explainable, roleplay reason that could be applied in a similar, real-life scenario.
  5. Use a reasonable, lore-friendly character name.
  6. Your character must have a unique first and last name.
  7. Mutiny.
  8. Mutiny is not allowed unless an Admin clears it via Adminhelp. You must also follow Mutiny Policy.
    Furthermore there are additional roleplay specific rules.

    General Roleplay Rules

    This section covers RP rules that should be followed at all times to the best of your ability. These for the most part do have some form of IC ramification, and may also have OOC ramifications.

    • Those who wish to disengage from fights should be allowed to do so
    If someone wants to stop fighting over a minor thing you should also stop hitting them.
    Security: You should also allow peaceful surrenders as often as possible. Using the compli-o-nator in your face mask can assist by providing audio cues. Note that using the compli-o-nator for stupid messages may get it destroyed.
    • Beating someone to death over minor items is not acceptable behavior in RP. Someone taking your toolbox isn’t sufficient reason to get them beaten to the point of cloning or crit.
    • If you beat someone into crit, you should take them to medbay unless you have a valid reason to not do so.
    Valid reasons include: They are an antag target, you’re attempting to surrender to security, security has tazed/stunned/otherwise incapacitated you, you’re pausing to let a medical professional catch up and treat the person!
    Valid reasons do not include: “Because I didn’t like him.” or “Someone else will get him.”
    • Don’t break into departments to do their jobs if there is someone manning the department that you need something from.
    Just because “The CT is slow” is not a good enough reason to hop over their table and do it for them. Wait at the desk and try to get someone from that department.
    Author note: We don’t want to start lightning bolting people for table hopping. Please don’t make us.
    • Any Creepy/gross/ERP-like behavior may be smited without warning. We don’t want to see it, the server doesn’t allow it, we’re not going to accept it in our community.
    • Any Centcom Official is permitted to summarily dismiss someone from their job.
    Fully impersonating a centcomm official (E.g. Headset, Uniform, ID, etc…) as a non-antag to grief, harm, or otherwise harass players will be considered griefing.
    • You should not assume the duties of another crewmember or enter another department without a proper escort from that department, or the crewmember in question’s permission.
    This means no sprinting into the engine room because “the engineers aren’t turning on the FTL fast enough!”
    • Memories about death in general may be vague.
    If you are cloned then you do not remember the details that lead up to your death.
    if you take a positronic brain or role other than from your own brain you do not remember the location or status of your old body.
    If you are revived through a revival surgery or defibrillation you are permitted to remember more details about your death.

Mutiny Policy

  1. The situation MUST be role-played.
  2. The captain MUST be given a chance to stand-down peacefully.
  3. Uninvolved crewmembers should be given the chance to remain uninvolved. They might shoot if they see you firing on the captain without a reason. Try to subdue them WITHOUT lethal force or explain the situation.
  4. Minimize losses. Use either non-lethal force ONLY, or give all crew members who oppose you a chance to stand-down .
  5. Do not start using lethals until you have been fired upon with lethals yourself.

Role Specific Rules

Chief of Staff

  1. Never abandon the ship. You should never intentionally be on a different z-level from the ship without admin permission. This does not apply when docking with a station to retrieve an objective, though that should be delegated.
  2. Be active when playing a Head of Staff. If you’re playing a command role and need to go AFK, offline, or otherwise leave then adminhelp to notify admins. WHEN YOU LEAVE, DO NOT SUICIDE OR GO AFK on the spot unless it’s an emergency.
  3. Do not play the department’s Head of Staff unless you have experience and a basic understanding of performing all of the department’s jobs.
  4. Heads of Staff are, unless otherwise stated, expected to follow the role-specific rules of their underlings in addition to their own.

Executive Officer

  1. Do not hand out all access like it’s candy on Halloween. Notify a department’s Chief of Staff if you give someone access to their department if possible. This does not apply during emergencies, or when giving Engineers and Scientists #additional access for the purposes of repairing and improving ship hull or equipment. Just ask yourself, “Does this person need access to this location?”
  2. People should not be given additional access to do someone else’s job. For example, giving a Shaft Miner access to Science when Scientists are already working on research. This can lead up to said player powergaming.
  3. You are not a member of security, and should not involve yourself in security matters unless it is an emergency or you are Acting Captain.

Security

  1. You are not some random mall cop, you are a trained security officer and should act like one. This means acting in a disciplined manner as if you have received training, and listening to your Head of Security
  2. Do not bucklecuff prisoners, except during searches or during evacuation aboard a shuttle or escape pod.
  3. The armory is for emergencies only. Do not take any gear from the armory without a serious reason, and return it when finished. Confiscated weapons should be stored in the armory, not carried around for personal use. Ship-to-ship combat #is not a valid excuse for opening up the armory.
  4. If you have nothing better to do, try NOT to be a stone wall. Roleplay. Tolerate the lawyer, apply ship law in context, and so forth. This is more of a suggestion than a rule, but being a no-fun shitler can get you banned if it happens #consistently.
  5. You are not Judge Dredd, you are an enforcer of ship security.
  6. Security Officers are held to a higher standard than John Q. Crewmember. Expect the other players/crewmembers to hold you responsible for the actions of Security as a whole. This does not mean you can fire the Captain because he wouldn’t give you extra access, all rules regarding mutiny still apply. Breaking security rules will lead to a jobban, very quickly.

Bridge Staff

Do NOT fire on Nanotrasen unless either:

  • An admin gives you permission.
  • Your mission objectives state you have to.
  1. Follow the Chain of Command. Know who you do and don’t outrank.
  2. Don’t run the show; that’s the captains job. Don’t jump just because you’re given an objective, that’s for the captain to order.
  3. Do not leave anyone behind, except in an emergency such as the warp core exploding or the ship being fired while shields are down.
  4. Unless the other bridge officer is absent on the bridge and you have a good reason to do so, do not touch the other bridge officer’s console.

Antag Conduct

Antags are expected to follow all rules that do not interfere with their objective.

Antags are free to complete their objective by any means available, within reason. For example, destroying large amounts of the station is reasonable if your objective is to hijack the shuttle; it is not acceptable if your objective is to steal the CE's blueprints.

Try to avoid unnecessary carnage that ultimately just ruins the round for other players, unless said players are your target. Subtlety goes a long way.

You must work with fellow antags towards completing a group objective if there is one.

Precedents,exceptions, and clarification: Examples and exceptions to the main rules.

Rule 3 expanded

Griefing can take the form of;

  • Murdering players for minor slights or no reason.
  • Destroying/Disabling key ship systems.
  • Harassing other players.
  • Purposely failing missions for the rest of the crew.
  • Purposely converting one self to an antagonistic faction to use the leniency granted to them.

Antagonists have special rules regarding what they can and cannot do, please see their specific rules in the Antagonist Rules Section.

Things that are not griefing are as follows;

  • A clown slipping a member of the crew in a low intensity situation
  • Two crewmembers getting into a light brawl over something IC. Emphasis on light.
  • A member of the crew breaking into a location to save person.
  • A member of the crew breaking into a foreign location.
  • A crewmember recently converted through circumstance attacking previously allied crew or vice versa
  • A captain through roleplay being removed from command for giving impractical/insane/unreasonable orders.
Rule 5 expanded
  • During Red Alert however, security crew are expected to arm themselves in preparation of danger, if there is a requirement for it. This does not mean you can arm yourself to the teeth each time Action Stations is triggered. If there is a real danger of antagonists/boarders/an active threat to the safety of the crew you are allowed to obtain weapons and gear.
  • Stealing from SSD without a proper purpose (they have your antag objective, they SSD'd in prisoner processing as either side involved, or it's a life or death emergency) is not allowed as it is essentially a very cheap and cheesy version of powergaming.
