You are the Paramedic, the second line of defense in keeping the ship from going nuclear due to a lack of alive people.
Bare minimum requirements: Check the crew monitor occasionally, track dead or hurt people down, bring bodies to Medbay.
The First Responder
As a paramedic your job is to get horizontal spessmen into a vertical state as fast as possible. For that get them to Medbay so the Medical Doctors there fix them. You’ll basically be the only medic outside of Medbay and you have near all access on your ID. When you feel prepared enough you could even treat your patients on the spot. How much you want to take up the Job of a Doctor or if you just want to rescue folks is up to you to decide. Keep an eye on Sensors and the Radio to react on being called to a dead Body.
For Instance : “Medical to Engineering” That is in fact you !
Useful Equipment
Starting Equipment
your medical aid kit comes with multiple medical items:
Basic surgery tools ,, , to tend wounds with ,
bruise packs to patch people's brute damage,
epinephrine pen to stabilize patients and prevent corpses from rotting
medical gauze to stop bleeding
health analyzer to analyse the state of a patient.
Your jacket also has a handheld crew monitor to see the damage/ health of people with their sensors enabled
and your pocket contains a crew pinpointer to track them down
Additonal Equipment
A medical belt lets you store a bunch of medical tools and
medical chems like synthflesh, bicardine, kelotane, formaldehyde , etc. depending on how competent and willing to help the (existing) Chemist is to treat patients quickly
Roller Beds and Body Bags let you transport dead people pretty fast
Latex / / Nitrile gloves increase the speed at which pick up people (Note that Nitrile is better than Latex)
Health Scanner HUD to see the State of your patient
Advanced Equipment
Advanced Surgery Tools ,, will increase the speed of your surgeries and you can activate them in hand to use the second function of the tool
Compact Defibrillator is a defibrillator that fits on your belt or in your backpack
Bluespace Body bags they work like Body bags but you can fold and pick this one up even if someone/something is in it
EVA Suit /Skin Suit for when someone’s dead in Space. You have access to the E.V.A. Storage roundstart, be aware though that wearing a suit gives you slowdown and you may not want to wear it all the time
How does Crew Monitor Suit Sensors and Pinpointer work?
On the Crew Monitor you can see the status of all Crewmembers with their Vital signs depending on the Level of Suit Sensor mode .
It’ll either not show up at all on the first setting, tell you if they are alive or not on Binary, give you the readout of their damage or their location on the highest setting.
Do make sure to have a look at this regularly as it’s your easiest and fastest way of finding out if people are hurt or horizontal
The Pinpointer lets you select a name from a list of people to track with, simply follow the arrow to the dead person. The Arrow will change Colour depending on the distance of the person
Transporting Bodies
This is your main job: get a body from point A to point B(usually medbay):
Fireman Carry:
To Fireman Carry you need to Grab the body-> Grab again to upgrade your grab->and drag the sprite of the body onto your own sprite. This will load the body on your back and will take up one of your hands
Load onto Roller Bed by grab-> load onto Roller Bed
Body Bags/Bluespace Body Bags :
unfold a bag by activating it in hand and put the body in it. You can then close up the bag and drag it away or in case of a bluespace bag fold it again and put the folded bag in your backpack
Odys have an extra module in which they can pick up bodies
Don't be afraid to ask other people around to help you carry bodies to take to med too.
Lockers are also pretty good since you can throw multiple bodies in one and drag all of them at once
Tips for Defibrillation/Cloning/
Usually the Reviving inside Medbay is being done by the Medical Doctors, but here's quick how to:
Defibrillation:
Defibrillation is detailed on the MD page and is just as relevant outside Medbay. If you have a compact defibrillator on you you'll often enough spare people the trip to Medbay.
Cloning:
Toss the body in the cloning scanner close it, scan and process in the console. If they are a valid patient heal the cloning damage afterwards in a cryotube (if the cloner is upgraded there will be no cloning damage)“
"Help my Toaster is Toast” IPCs cannot be cloned, rather repair them with Wires and Welders and give them their specific healing chemicals from chemistry to recover toxic, brain damage
"Why does this guy keep on catching on fire?” That Person is a plasmaman, to clone them properly there is a guide here: How to clone a Plasmaman
Leaving Roadkill for the Rats
- People are already dead....¯\_(ツ)_/¯, why would you change that?
- Bodies usually don't complain if someone steals from them, soooooo scoop up those guns, batons, IDs etc.
- You almost have all access, so steal all the good stuff like tools equipment or Traitor Objectives from the departments you want
- you can EMP a defibrillator and make it hella deadly
- It's unlikely that people will suspect you with a corpse on your back or on a roller bed, since they assume you do your job
General Tips
- When cloning people strip them and put their stuff in a locker so no one steals their stuff
- The epinephrine pens have formaldehyde in them that stop corpse decay and makes you preserve bodies
- Never drag Corpses, since in the process of dragging them around they loose a ton of blood start to suffocate from blood loss
- Teleportation is a very fast way of travel
- Even though medbay cares for everyone, noone cares about medbay. Unless everyone cares, in which case everyone including medbay is dead. You loose either way. Learn to live with this fact.
