History[edit | edit source]

Oozelings were found on the same planet as the slimes that are used in xenobiology. They were once brutally experimented on as they were developing as a species by Federation scientists until they were given their Sapient Species rights by the Species Equality Act. As it stands their history is very recent as not even a decade ago they weren’t sapient let alone considered as such.

Xenoecology Entry: Oozeling - Mimica Sapien[edit | edit source]

Overview[edit | edit source]

Oozelings have only just been reclassified as a sapient species and are now protected under the Species Equality Act along with their fully recognized discovery. Much of the experimentation done on oozelings has been questioned by several ethics committees as much of the experimentation was done before their classification as a sapient species and therefore was done without their consent. Leaving many of them scarred if they survived the experiments performed on them. Their integration into society has seen as much if not more strife than other alien species, though there is the hope that Oozelings, along with the other alien species, have a bright future in the Federation.

Mimica Sapien or “Oozelings” as a local name, were discovered late compared to their slime counterparts. Both the slimes used in Xenobiology research and these bipedal, sapient oozelings come from the same planet though they behave wildly differently. Though technically they were encountered alongside slimes, they weren’t recognized as a separate species until much much later.

The first oozelings to be distinguished away from slimes had been observed to mimic or imitate both the shape and sound of other animals native to their home planet. Though they were translucent and extraordinarily colorful compared to the species they were mimicking, it proved to be an excellent hunting strategy for their prey which has consequently made many of the researchers involved in Oozeling observation extraordinarily uneasy. Oozelings have, in recent months, adapted to and begun mimicking humanoids.

Through examination and research, it’s become apparent that oozelings not only mimic humanoid appearance but likewise internal anatomy and organ structure. They’ve developed eyes, ears, and a tongue, along with respiratory, cardiovascular, and digestive systems that are akin to most carbon species. Their outer layers are thick much like skin and when damaged they do bleed. Previous variations of Mimica haven’t been observed to contain a brain, instead using a series of neuron cells all throughout their jelly mass in a method of distributed intelligence. With the development of the bipedal variation, their distributed intelligence has concentrated into a fully functioning brain, sulci and gyri included.

Though their resemblance to bipeds is startling and uncanny, they do have plenty of biological differences. Much like their slime cousins, they cannot come into contact with high concentrations of water as it will dissolve their skin and “flesh”, which makes them the only sapient species that does not require water to live and function. They can consume any food and any oozeling requires as much as they can eat to maintain their blood levels.. Their internal “blood” takes the form of slime ooze which an oozeling uses to repair its body as it gets damaged. They are vulnerable to cold, dangerously so and thrive well in heat.

Surprisingly, oozelings do not reproduce asexually like their slime cousins but a combination of meiosis and mitosis. Two oozelings will connect to one another via any appendage though typically their arms are used at which point their homogenous jelly mass will exchange genetic material. Afterwards each individual has an approximate 60% chance of carrying an offspring created from the exchanged material. To birth this offspring, it will consume a large amount of biomass and feed this biomass to its offspring within its body, and eventually “mitose” from it though that is a relatively inaccurate word to use. There yet is a word that describes the process of an oozeling’s birth.

Gameplay[edit | edit source]

Oozelings are a roundstart slimeperson race, they have 7 6 main features:

  • Reverse Toxin Damage (toxin heals, antitoxin hurts)
  • Water, being hungry and Antitoxins remove blood
  • Eating food and consuming toxins regenerate blood
  • Immune to fire (not burn damage from lasers and welders, only enviromental fires)
  • 3x damage from cold temperatures
  • 1/3 damage from hot temperatures
  • Getting killed by medical

Roleplay[edit | edit source]

Oozeling names are often a color, usually the color of their slime, and their favorite food. (i.e. Purple Biscuit, Chartreuse Quiche, Lime Pork Omelet).

Many of the Oozelings that are around today were largely experimented on before receiving their rights, being allowed jobs and lives like the rest of the Federation. If you play an Oozeling they may have the Phobia trait or experience post-traumatic stress disorder based on the nature of the experiments performed on them.

As it stands, Oozelings having such an uncanny resemblance to people leaves many to feel uneasy when one is around. You may experience some people having moderate discomfort or uneasiness in your presence as it is widely known slimes and likewise Oozelings will eat ANYTHING remotely edible including people and organs if given the opportunity.

It’s not uncommon for Oozelings to interact with and communicate with slimes, they do speak the same language though slimes have a rudimentary understanding of language at best. Though pyroclastic anomaly slimes will always be hostile and should be not communicated with.
