== History ==

Apids are a very recently discovered race. The first contact with them comes from a botanical NT expedition to a jungle-covered planet. They are seemingly related to space bees, but a test of their genome has shown that they bear no real biological resemblance to species used aboard SS13, and the race naming is simply a coincidence due to the first contact.

Apid society was somewhat primitive, with having only just taken off to expand throughout their solar system. This contact, happening well after the Species Equality Act was passed, gave Nanotrasen the opportunity to uplift another species into the Federation though the first contact put quite a hold on those plans. 

They were first contacted in their own home system in which immediately Nanotrasen was responsible for causing a diplomatic incident. Researchers exploring the edges of the Delphic Expanse had bluespace jumped into the middle of an Apid military training exercise. Having panicked, the researchers called to a nearby Nanotrasen outpost for military reinforcement. The ensuing conflict is now referred to as '[[Incident Report No. 4431]]’ and requires C3 access to read in full. 

After the NTPR’s impressive stunt to end the war the Apids declared against humanity, a Non-Aggression Pact was formed and the two began an exchange of culture and information. Eventually their inclusion in the Federation became a reality however their participation is minimal due to their societal structure though rarely a liason can be seen aboard a Nanotrasen vessel.
